Pre-Diabetes
Pre-diabetes occurs when someone shows early signs of Type Two diabetes but is not fully diagnosed. Pre-diabetic patients have blood-glucose levels that are higher than the normal 100, but not high enough to be life-threatening. These terms are used because when one is pre-diabetic, the way that he or she obtains and uses glucose is impaired. Pre-diabetes often has no symptoms, so patients are usually unaware of the disease if they are not diagnosed by a doctor. People with pre-diabetes are at a higher risk of getting Type Two diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease.
In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. Type 2 Diabetes
If you have type 2 diabetes your body does not use insulin properly. This is called insulin resistance. At first, your pancreas makes extra insulin to make up for it. But, over time it isn't able to keep up and can't make enough insulin to keep your blood glucose at normal levels.
In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use glucose for energy. When you eat food, the body breaks down all of the sugars and starches into glucose, which is the basic fuel for the cells in the body. Insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells
